Apartment Building – 29062010

This is a project where I created a small apartment building containing around 9 apartments and 3 garage/box units. The idea of this project was just to try out making a big model instead of the single room designs I normally do. I haven’t tried to render this in Kerkythea as the export took way to long. The drawing is build up from a single staircase, apartment and garage unit which I then copy and pasted. Normally this wouldn’t create a heavy file but cause I actually filled the apartment with furniture it also copy’s all the furniture which makes the whole picture harder to load and customize.

The apartment can be seen as a small studio. Having one big living room which is also used as a bedroom, a small kitchen, a hallway and a small bathroom with toilet and shower. Also on the back side of the building each apartment has a small balcony.

Included with this work case are pictures of the apartment building itself and pictures of the apartment and it’s interior.

Quicky House – 28062010

This is a small house, created with and for quicky components. Quicky components is short for dynamic components in Google Sketchup. Dynamic components are interactive and can be used to let objects move or interact with objects. In this house I used quicky doors, windows and kitchen cupboards.

This is a fast design of a small house with a garage to try out google sketchup. The layout consists of 2 floors. Downstairs a small office, kitchen/livingroom and garage. Upstairs a lounge area, big bedroom and also a big bathroom. It isn’t completly finished cause it was more for testing purposes then actually a project.

Kitchen – 24062010

This is a kitchen I created in Google Sketchup to try out rendering in Kerkythea. The kitchen is mostly build up by Dynamic components, meaning that they are A) Interactive and B) easy to modify. This saves up alot of time with building and creating. By using the SU2KT plugin in Sketchup it is easy to add lights and export the file to Kerkythea.

In Kerkythea I added materials to the surfaces, changed the light settings and then let it cook. Rendering of the first picture took around 18 hours and 30 minutes. The second image I kept on for the weekend so it had more render time. The second picture ook around 66 hours and did a total of 1480 passes. The render settings used for both pictures is called Metropolis Light Transport, or short MLT and this gives a nice realistic result.

Kitchen – 26032010

The kitchen is a design from the Sketchup 3D warehouse. Edited by me in Sketchup and fine tuned in DIALux. Under the cupboards are 3 lights placed to light out the counter. The cabinet island in the middle has 2 wall mounted lights shining down over the floor. The ceiling is fitted with round spots to light the area.

The ceiling lights were placed in a grid of 4 row’s and 5 lights a row. Later on some lights were removed.

The area itself is dark from color. Dark kitchen furniture together with a metal look. Combined with black tiled walls and a black/white tile floor. The ceiling is white made of white panels.

This time I rendered POV-ray images and CAD renders. Normally the POV-ray is said to be one of the realistic looking images. In this case I found the CAD renders better. Even if the POV-ray also uses reflection of glass, floor, ect I find the CAD render showing a better result of the lighting. As in the POV-ray everything looks dark and gloomy.

Fashion Store – 12012010

The fashion store is a home made design. The layout is made as how I would see it in a store. As colors I wanted to use dark combined with light. By using black walls, but white ceiling and floors it gives a nice contrast. The dressing room area and the store itself is devided by a glass wall, this providing a nice light effect.

The paintings on the walls, aswell as the models above the entrance are lighted by various spots.

Just to try out some stuff I created this office working floor. The rendering of the light scene took around 20 minutes.

For lights I used the ETAP R5A05, the file storage area has a combination of HESS LED bars in the floor and ERCO downlighters.
